Whole Person Integrated Care

  • Management of substance use, co-occurring mental health and medical conditions including high blood pressure, hepatitis, HIV and AIDS
  • On-site laboratory, specialized testing, and primary care services
  • Lifestyle modification coaching in exercise, nutrition, stress management and sleep hygiene
  • Vocational, educational, housing and legal resource assistance 

Medication Treatment

  • FDA approved medication to reduce cravings and prevent relapse from opioid and alcohol
  • Off-label use of medications with evidence to support the use in substance use and mental health disorders
  • Outpatient medical detoxification if appropriate
  • Mental illness medication management

Behavioral Therapy

  • Brief interventions. Usually delivered in a few short sessions providing information about the individual’s substance use pattern, potential risks, and ideas for habit change.
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy. Individuals actively participate in their own therapy to learn how to modify or replace negative thought patterns with more positive ones.
  • Substance use counseling. This short-term treatment involves encouraging individuals to openly discuss their personal experiences leading to greater self-awareness and enhanced skills to improve interpersonal relationships.
  • Relapse prevention. Cognitive behavioral strategies that help individuals learn to identify and correct problematic behaviors to maintain abstinence as well as assist individuals who relapse to substance use. 
  • Contingency management/motivational incentives. A positive reinforcement approach that involves rewards given to individuals who achieve specific treatment milestones such as abstinence and regular attendance. 
  • Motivational interviewing. A counseling approach that assists individuals resolve ambivalence by finding their internal motivational to change.

Recovery Support 

  • Self-help groups (AA, NA, SMART Recovery)
  • Recovery coach
  • Collaborative care with psychiatrists, psychotherapists and counselors
  • Community resources for uninsured and low income individuals

Experienced Board-Certified Addiction Medicine Physician

Dr. Frank Melo is a board-certified Addiction Medicine and Family Medicine physician with over 20 years of healthcare experience. Dr. Melo has been helping individuals recover from alcohol and drug addiction since 2011. His areas of expertise include medication-assisted treatment for opioid and alcohol use disorders; Methadone to Suboxone transition; opioid use disorder treatment during pregnancy; and at-home medical detox.
